Hye Mi Ahn was born and raised in Maryland, and has lived in Baltimore for a little over ten years now. She worked as a senior companion for Home Instead Senior Care, a job coach for people with developmental disabilities at United Cerebral Palsy, and a case processing assistant at Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Services. She served in Peace Corps Moldova at a veteran’s organization, and was an organizational development adviser for an environmental NGO in Cameroon. She was an AmeriCorps Volunteer Maryland Coordinator for a nonprofit that provides financial education and coaching for low-income families and individuals. She's currently the program coordinator at Consumer Quality Team of Maryland. They get feedback from consumers of mental health services.
Hye Mi has a B.A. in cultural anthropology from University of Maryland Baltimore County and an M.A. in sustainable development from School for International Training Graduate Institute. She received a grant from American Association of University Women for grad school. She has volunteered for KarmaTube, Kare Project Voice (U.S.-based nonprofit providing school scholarships for female South Sudanese students), and Meals on Wheels. She envisions herself collaborating with other changemakers to create and implement innovative solutions to some of today's most pressing problems. Whether by creating a startup herself or being a social enterprise facilitator, she will empower marginalized groups and promote egalitarian societies. She is joining Amani so she can work more directly in the field of social innovation and approach her work with more design thinking.
