Daud was born and raised in Somalia before being forced to relocate to Kenya's largest refugee camp, Dadaab because of the civil war. After completing primary and secondary education, he started working with the Refugee Consortium of Kenya as a Paralegal worker. After seven years, he moved to Kakuma Camp where he continued working with several organizations including the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR), Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) among others. He undertook a couple of short courses and a Diploma in Liberal Arts majoring in Social Work. He is passionate about refugee issues, the youth and community development. In 2018, he served as the speaker of Kakuma Youth Parliament where he pioneered and led outreach initiatives.
He is known for his inspiration and optimism. He co-researched, co-facilitated and co-authored a book chapter on refugee education, psycho-social peace building in emergency setting that was published in 2018. Daud currently works for URISE Initiative for Africa as the Partnership Coordinator. At Amani Institute, he hopes to gain knowledge and skills and the practical experiences that will enable him to become adept at managing programs in innovative ways to contribute substantially to the education and development sectors.
